
Garden Activity Coordinator
Akahiaoʻs vision is to create a model for the future of ecocentric ways of knowing, circular economies and happy, healthy children. We strive to develop meaningful relationships amongst the youth and the natural world through our experiential, nature immersive programming. We believe that the most direct way we are connected to the ʻAina is through our food, so the Garden Activity Coordinator will play a central role in strengthening that bond between our keiki and the Natural World. We are looking for someone who can understand the various organic farming techniques used in the garden, help maintain the garden and figure out ways to share the knowledge with our keiki.

Responsibilities

Everyday garden maintenance, including taking care of ducks, composting bins, keeping trails open, tree trimming, watering, fence line maintenance, waterline maintenance etc.

Work with the director to report on what food is available in the garden, harvest before things go to waste to donate or potentially sell at farmers markets.

Run garden workshops for keiki ages ranging from 2 years old to university students

Organize community volunteer days in the garden

Organize and run gardening workshops (4 times a year)

Upload photos on social media of garden happenings
Minimum Qualifications
-
2 years working with growing plants
-
Experience working with children is a plus
-
Working knowledge of basic garden tools and machinery

Knowledge of food forest & permaculture methodologies
