GEMS PROGRAM

Girls Entrepreneurship & Mālama ‘Aina Spring (GEMS) Program has been designed to cultivate leadership capabilities in young women to grow strong female leaders who have the capacities and dispositions to navigate, guide, and shape our dynamic world. Our workshops are grounded in Hawaiian values and immerses the participants in bountiful nature of Hawai’i Island.
This program has an entrepreneurship focus and is designed to develop confidence and self-efficacy in young women. The experience culminates with a design thinking workshop run by Meli James, a successful female entrepreneur.
Participants are invited to Huehue Ranch on the Big Island, Hawaiʻi, a microcosm of the world where students can access an understanding of global issues through an intimate exploration of the local landscapes.
Participants will:

Explore themselves and their capabilities, passions and how their values align with their purpose

Meet inspiring local social entrepreneurs

Learn OPAKA journaling, positive reflections

Learn to cook with ingredients from the garden

Gain insight into systems thinking based on permaculture principles

Build life skills that foster the attitudes and the mindsets that will be useful for living a purposeful life

Build resiliency, self-efficacy, and courage through a challenging hike up Pu‘u Wa‘awa‘a

Create a vision of the future and design a pathway with concrete steps to get there
